Green Ribbon for Gift Wrapping

Author: Flower Lady
December 12, 2011

Packages and gifts can be beautifully and festively wrapped while at the same time be earth friendly. These cute gifts are wrapped in recycled paper, and could also be wrapped in recycled paper bags. Wrap them neatly with tight corners and smooth edges and use paper tape.

Choose organic cotton ribbon or some call it green ribbon because it is not harmful to the environment. Tie it in a simple bow tie. It can be died into almost any color you want, or you can die it yourself at home. You can give great gifts and wrap them in a way that supports your desire to leave less of an environmental impact when you pass.

We are so happy to introduce our Earth Friendly ribbon. Organic Cotton Ribbon is made from 100% organic cotton fibers. Cotton/Hemp Ribbon is made from 40% organic cotton fibers, 25% non-organic cotton and 35% hemp.

We also have three other natural ribbon products: our Cotton Satin Weave Ribbon, Cotton Twill Tape Ribbon and our Cotton Taffeta Ribbon, which are all made from 100% cotton in a variety of weaves. All of our new natural ribbon products are biodegradable. We can also custom dye and custom print on our Organic Cotton Ribbon using non-toxic dyed colors.

Taffeta Ribbon Bow Instructions

This beautiful package looks so difficult to wrap but I found this video tutorial that shows how to craft a beautiful bow like this.  You will need, depending on the size of your gift, a couple yards of wide satin or taffeta ribbon. This is a small package. Decorative packaging doesn’t have to be hard.  This is much easier than it looks.

You can never have too much ribbon!  Of course that is to our benefit if you use a lot of ribbon!  I love the way the silver glittery faux evergreen juniper sprigs compliments the rich chocolate brown double satin ribbon. These are slipped under the edge of the ribbon for added glitz and glam!

You will also love the way that this bow unties.  He really does make it look easy!

Follow this link below for awesome instructions on how to tie this bow.

If you like to scrap book, then this craft will be a fun one for you!  You probably have most of the items needed already too.

Stock up on some wonderful decorative ribbon, holiday plaid ribbon, checked ribbon and ribbon for all occasions because you can customize these bags to any occasion.

Hobby and craft stores sell these plain gift bags in bulk at whole sale prices.  These are decorated for Christmas and they have done a great job.  They have made them look like there are little wrapped packages in various ways on the front of each bag.

Use complimentary tissue paper to conceal the gift. And every one will want to know where you bought these great gift bags.

Who knows, you could even start a business making them.

Basic Ribbon Decorative Wrapping

This crackle paper is so pretty.  I have never seen any before.  The description says it is designer wrapping paper made to look like antique crackle painted walls. The paper is so decorative that the ribbon does not need to be colorful or intricate.  A simple sheer ribbon or basic ribbon will work beautifully.  Just tie an abundant bow on top.

This would also be a great decoration for a door stop.  I have friends that hat an old original brick or block from their childhood homestead.  It is painted and dated with the year that the house was built.

This is a way to decorate the block or cement and keep it yet it will be useful and not just another thing to collect dust.

Choose a ribbon that will best compliment your object and then have fun using your imagination and resources to decorate the top with seasonal dried flowers and potpourri tucked in the bow.

Taking special time to decoratively wrap any gift is like a double gift to the recipient.  Today’s economy makes it tough for most families to get all they need to.  In years past, it might be ok to buy extended family and friends multiple gifts but not this year.  Take the extra time to wrap it beautifully.

Do you have a lot of people on your Christmas list?  There are so many people who help us every day like teachers, Sunday school teachers, mail carriers, baby sitters, and wonderful neighbors.  This is a cute way to wrap up a little something to say thanks and Merry Christmas.

Even if the people don’t drink coffee, they might drink hot cocoa, or hot tea. Mugs are inexpensive and available in all seasons, themes, and sizes.  You can put candy inside or packs of hot chocolate, gourmet tea bags, flavored coffee creamers and coffee.  I always make a lot of mini loaves of banana bread that would also be a nice treat to stick inside.

Cellophane bags are very inexpensive and available in bulk.  They are available in all colors too.  If you keep a wide variety of curling ribbon colors, then decorative packaging will only take minutes and a very frilly fun gift is ready to go.

We have a lot of neighbors and friends that hunt and share their deer meet with us, If you also have hunter friends, you could use camouflage ribbon and they will be thrilled with your interest in their hobby

Basic Ribbon Bows for Wrapping

There is a famous quote, “No job is completed until the paperwork is done” (Unknown Author). Well that also applies to gift wrapping.  Deciding what gift to buy usually the hard part for me, but the fun part is always wrapping!

A bow is always icing on the cake.  You can make bows like these by either using pre made paper ribbon bows or make ribbon bows yourself from any basic ribbon.  These bows are so big and beautiful because they are several bows stacked on top of each other of various sizes.

Cut the loops of the bow at an angle.  Open the center and stick a smaller one in the center. They look like a peony.

Sports Ribbon Theme Gift Bags

Christmas time is the season of giving!  Sacrificial giving of one’s time and creativity more than the amount of money you can spend.

I love this country way of decoratively packaging some home baked goodies or candies to give as gifts.  Paper lunch bags are very inexpensive.  You can place individual mini loaves or banana bread or pumpkin bread in a sandwich baggie and place in the bottom of the bag.  – fold down the top of the paper sack, punch two holes through the middle of the folded down flap, either side by side or top and bottom, push each ribbon end through each hole from the front to back, then take one ribbon up over the top and the other down and come up from the bottom.  Tie a knot making sure that your ends are even.

Make a gift tag, use thin ribbon or cord to attach the gift tag, you can thread the cord in from the back into the two holes and tie a knot after attaching the tag.  Then tie a bow with the ribbon to finish the wrapping.

This is a great way to give your neighbors some holiday goodies, with a Christmas card; you can use this same idea for treat bags at school.  You can change the theme by changing the ribbon style.  Today’s kids are very active in sports and activities at school.  You can give goodie bags to the team members and use a sports ribbon theme.

Who doesn’t love polka dots?  They are fun, decorative and can be used all year long for any occasion to wrap with.

Decorative wrapping doesn’t require any more time than it does to wrap a plain gift but will mean so much more to the recipient.  When a gift is stunningly wrapped it adds to the exhilaration of any occasion.

Polka dot ribbon looks best when on a plain color wrapping.  If you use polka dot paper, then a wide solid color ribbon then you can use a narrower polka dot ribbon on top of that.  This will help the ribbon to pop off the package and be noticed.

I also think it looks so elegant to use the red and gold pattern paper layered with the red velvet ribbon and then more paper.  Gift wrapping is so much fun!  Stock up on a wide variety of whole sale ribbon so you can design your own special gift wrapping creations.

Wrapping a gift should have as much thought and creativity put into it as the gift itself.  This beautifully wrapped gift has several great facets to it.

The colors of the two ribbons are fabulous together and look perfect on this silver opaque box. By using two different sizes of ribbon to create depth and are very eye appealing.

You can have ribbon personalized to say almost anything you want to display your message.  This gift is for a bride to give to her bridesmaids as a thank you gift.  You might consider ordering ribbon that says Merry Christmas, Love Mom and Dad.  Maybe you make a lot of home baked goodies to share with neighbors and teachers.  You could personalize the ribbon to say Merry Christmas from the “Smith” Family. Obviously you would insert your name there.

To wrap a gift like this, first measure your package, and then measure the wide ribbon to be one inch longer than the size of the box.  Wrap the wide ribbon around the box and use double stick tape to secure the ends over lapping on the top of the package.  Then measure the thinner personalized ribbon. Make sure your ribbon is long enough to have at least 6 inch tails and 3 inch loops on the bow.
