Kids love arts and crafts. And, during the dreary dark days of Fall and Winter, there’s nothing more satisfying than watching your kids sit quietly, working on a project at the kitchen table. With Halloween coming up why not prepare in advance a couple of arts and craft projects for your kids to work on during those days when it’s too windy and rainy to play outside. The following instructions will give you all the information you need to be able to make glue ghosts and milk container pumpkins with your kids.Glue Ghosts
To make glue ghosts you’ll need to purchase some basic craft supplies including white school glue, waxed paper, wiggle eyes and felt, buttons or pom poms.
-
Place a piece of waxed paper on a flat surface.
-
Squeeze glue from the bottle into the shape of a ghost.
-
Place wiggle eyes into the glue.
-
If you would like to decorate your ghost, use felt, buttons, pom-poms or whatever you like to make it unique.
-
Let ghosts dry overnight.
-
Once they are dry carefully peel the ghosts from the waxed paper. Use them to decorate the house for Halloween!
Milk Container Pumpkin
You will need a plastic milk container with lid, a pen or a pencil, craft scissors, orange acrylic or gloss paint, a sponge brush applicator, a hot glue gun, a battery-operated tealight candle and brown felt.
- Press lightly with your pencil to draw the jack-o-lantern face on the front of the milk container.
- Use scissors to cut out the shape of a face. Cut a flap (big enough to fit sand or a pile of rocks in) in the back of the pumpkin.
- Paint the container with three coats of orange paint. Allow it to dry in between coats.
- Make sure the tealight candle fits inside the mouth of the pumpkin (you may need to use the scissors to create a larger opening). Remove the tealight and set aside.
- Cut out a rectangle of brown felt large enough to fit in the mouth of the milk container. Use hot glue inside the area, then fold the excess down around the outside of the mouth and glue in place. The tealight should fit snugly inside and be pointing downward.
- Insert a small bag of sand, or some rocks in to the back of the pumpkin to keep it weighed down.
Place the pumpkin in your window or on your front porch and enjoy!
