To make a big impressive valentine, go to the craft store and buy a large piece of foam board. Cut it into a heart shape then decorate it with ribbon, glitter, a photo of you and your sweetheart, stickers, whatever. The bigger the better.

You can use leftover red Christmas ribbon, or inexpensive red or pink satin for this unique idea. Take a spool of ribbon and write love notes on it with a black sharpie, use fancy-pretty handwriting, varying sizes, caps and lower case letters to add interest. You can make it in letter form or just random sweet thoughts. Put the ribbon inside a red envelope with some hanging out or inside a ring box. When your Valentine pulls the ribbon out they will read your sweet love letter.
If you’ve taken a trip to the beach together, you could even put the ribbon inside a shell!

Buy your valentine a full-size chocolate bar or several minis. Use the original wrapping as a guide to create a new wrappers out of pretty paper. Write a special love note on it or give it a creative name like “Almost As Sweet as You”. You can even use ribbon to add some luxury to your inexpensive gift.

Give a gift that will last for weeks to come. Buy a box of tissues in a box that can be decorated with hearts, glitter and ribbon. Open the side of the box to gain access to the stack of tissues. Write a love note on each one then place them back in the box. Each time your valentine sneezes they will be reminded that you love them.
