Fun decorations with ribbon. With a tree branch, some paint, a little glitter, a vase, marbles, thin ribbon, card-stock, and vacation photos, you could create a vacation tree or a summer fun tree. Paint a dead tree branch and sprinkle the branch with glitter while the paint is wet. Use a vase or any glass jar and fill it with marbles or dragon tears from the floral department in a craft store. Place the glittery branch into the vase, using the marbles to keep the branch in place. Place vacation photos onto colorful card-stock and punch a hole in the top of the card-stock. Then string the ribbon or elastic cord through the hole and hang photos onto tree branch like you would ornaments. Write who, what, where, why, and when on the back of the card-stock. This tree could represent many vacations by having a collection of different travel photos on it. It could also have summer type photo such as swimming, baseball, or family barbecues. Make sure to use copies of your photos.
If designer flip flops are just out of your budget why not get out the craft box and decorate a pair of the cheap ones? This is a fun and inexpensive way to have some really cute and unique flip flops that everyone will want! This is a great project for a slumber party or group get together.
THINGS YOU WILL NEED
- 1 Pair of flip flops
- 1/2 yard decorative ribbon
- Hot Glue Gun or Good Quality Glue
- Scissors
- Small Decorative Stone or Flower optional
Make inexpensive flip flops look dazzling! You can customize them to any outfit.
Start with one flip flop, measure the top strap to determine the length of ribbon you will need for each flip flop.
Once you have the measurement, cut your ribbon about an inch longer so you have room for error and to hide the raw edges.
Decorate flip flops with ribbon
To prepare the ribbon apply a small drop of glue at the very end on the back side (the side you are gluing to your shoes). Fold the ribbon over to make a smooth edge at the end.
Now you will need to glue the ribbon to the strap of your flip flop. Start on the outside of the shoe and apply glue to the plastic strap of the flip flop
Decorate flip flops with ribbons.
While the glue is still wet you will need to attach the ribbon to the plastic strap. Place this edge on the plastic strap directly above the shoe sole.
Continue pressing the ribbon into the glue on the plastic strap until you have come to the middle of the flip flop, where the strap curves back the other direction.
Now following the outer edge of the plastic strap (the edge closest to your toes) continue applying the ribbon to the plastic strap. This will leave an extra triangle of ribbon in the center of your flip flop.
You can add flowers, or buttons, or what ever embellishments you like to fit your style!
You can easily organize and store your ribbon spools using a curtain tension rod.
Use an inexpensive, thin tension rod to organize your spools or ribbon. You can slide the holes in the center of the ribbon spools onto the tension rod and hang it up in a cupboard, a windows sill, or any place else that has two supports.

Trendy Decorative Ribbon Bracelet
Choose up to four different colors for an awesome bracelet!
1) What you’ll need:
4 pieces of decorative ribbon, each 2 yards long (For this bracelet, I used 1/4 inch wide but you can use any size or combination of sizes)
Scissors
Needle and thread
2) Overlap the centers of all four ribbons as shown here. Secure these together by either lightly tacking together with needle and thread of adding a drop of glue to each intersection.
3) To begin weaving, fold the first ribbon down over the one underneath it.
4) We work first in a counterclockwise direction so continue to fold down the next ribbon across the one beneath it.
7) When you fold the last ribbon over, slip it under the loop of the first ribbon you folded down like so. Tighten all four ribbons.
8) After going around counterclockwise, reverse the pattern and fold the ribbons across working in a clockwise direction. Begin this round with the ribbon you just passed under the loop
9) Continue repeating these two, tightening the ribbons after each round, until your weaving measures 3 1/2 inches long.
Then repeat on the opposite side of where you tacked your ribbons together. Stop when the entire piece measures 7 inches long.
10) To fasten both ends, sew a criss cross stitch through each of the four squares and cut the ribbon close to the weaving.
11) Then give the bracelet a full twist and butt the two ends up against one another. Whip stitch the edges together.
The bracelet will look small but it stretches to fit over your hand.
